The fourth of director Éric Rohmer's six "Comedies et Proverbes" series of movies of the 1980s. A lonely Parisian woman comes to terms with her isolation and anxieties during a long summer vacation. Rohmer is also interesting primarily in that his dialogue and each segregated 'moment' in the piece is wildly comic and slightly wry (within the first five minutes there's a memorable scene with escalating comments about a statue which is reminiscent of the screenplay for Vera Chytilova's seminal work Delphine, a woman who after breaking up with her long-time engaged partner, makes unfulfilling trips to a trio of resorts in a sentimental journey that captures one's craving for solitude and the loneliness that accompanies it.
