So perhaps it's the translation of this book I have a problem with? Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of The story started off interesting but by the time I'd neared the end I was not enjoying the book at all. dem ganzen Land, das täglich von Terrorismus erschüttert wurde, in dem Islamisten und korrupte Reiche das Sagen hatten, die gewöhnliche Bevölkerung eingeschüchtert schwieg oder, angesichts weniger Alternative zum Elend, mitmachte.1997 veröffentlicht, zur Zeit des algerischen Bürgerkriegs. We’d love your help.
The language was irrelevant and unnecessary. For this reason only I would say read Morituri in its original language. November 1st 2003 Your account will only be charged when we ship the item. There was an error retrieving your Wish Lists.
The language was irrelevant and unnecessary. Fascinating to read a mystery by an Arab author and to see the extent to which civil war destroyed law and order in Algeria. Before I say anything else, let me just note that there is a translation issue going on in this novel, but if you can get past that, the book is amazing. Set in Algiers in the beginning of 90's, Morituri is a detective novel in which his central hero inspector Llob is trying to solve a case of the disappeared daughter of one of the big "sharks" of the city. After reading Morituri, my sixth book by Khadra, the author is featured at the top places of my most read authors at the moment. I have links with Algeria and have been their several times so couldn't wait to read this book from an (exiled) Algerian author. Order now and we'll deliver when available.
It may be a lot better...Ho apprezzato altri romanzi di questo autore, ma in questo caso ho davvero fatto fatica ad arrivare alla fine. But what came through loud and clear was that this is clearly a condemnation of the destruction of Algeria by the fundamentalists. Unfortunately I have another book in the inspector Llob series but its been over a year and I still haven't wanted to start reading it. This book is the fist one of "Llob" series I 'm reading and a nice surprise to see a different kind of book compared to what I have read by him so far. Molt càustic, els diàlegs són excessius. Find all the books, read about the author, and more. Offizier der algerischen Armee.
In my mind, the original mystery, i.e., the disappearance of the young woman, was never solved. It's a nationalistic narrative of love for Algeria, a nostalic, longing for the Algeria not of today but of yesterday.
